“A man sits upon a stone”

A man sits upon a stone at the edge of the sea.

He is alone.

He glances for a moment from the stone below.

In an instant he is taken aghast by the sight before him.

A desert.

Seemingly endless arid depths.

The insignificance of the stone upon which he sits runs full circle and he is lost.

Quickly he lowers his focus to the stone below.

The eyes search for facts.

Stumbling, they discover a small crab clinging to the stone beneath his feet.

The man begins to smile.

The moments focus is stolen by the voice of a gull above.

He turns to see the gull fly from a stone higher than his.

And a man’s smile fades to tears.

A man sits upon a stone.
